Enquiry Question: How did the Homesteaders learn to thrive on the Great Plains?
The Great Plains that stretched across the centre of the USA were, for many years, thought to be useless to the settlers who named it the Great American Desert.
- Create a list of the dangers that settlers faced on the Great Plains.
- What was the most significant danger that the settlers faced on the Great Plains?
This is an example of an advert used by the railroad companies to encourage people to move onto the Great Plains. These could be seen across the whole of the USA and even Europe encouraging the settlement of this area of land.
